A Busy Season

Thank you for joining me in my little corner of the world for a peak into what is happening in and around the studio.

In May, my artwork was featured on the cover of a New Zealand literary magazine, The Little Lit. It was their inaugural issue and I was honoured to be chosen for the cover, with a right up inside. Copies are available through their website or Instagram page, with digital copies are still obtainable I believe. Their mission is to help first-time writers get published and to collaborate with illustrators.

My granddaughter made a late appearance and she is an absolute joy. I might need to adjust my colour palette, especially for fabric designs because she is a redhead. With her arrival, I’ve started scrapbooking again after a 15-year hiatus. Thankfully, I found all the old art kits I use to use, thought its a learning curve to remember how the software works. I’m now bugging my daughter for daily photos lol. I’d love to create some art kits from my own work, but that will have to wait for now.

The beginning of June saw my dad have an unfortunate accident with a ladder, resulting in multiple fractures. So we’ve been traveling frequently between Wellington & Hawkes Bay. Creating art on the move is challenging but I am getting some administrative work completed while traveling.

Have you seen my Instagram reels with my Swedish Dishcloths? I’m amazed at how many times they have been played. Who knew people would want to watch me do housework?

I am still working on the fabric collections but have been a bit sidetracked with another project. I’m excited to announce that I am currently revamping my entire website. The feedback from my beta testers has been amazing and it will be ready to launch very soon. Stay tuned for the announcement.

There is a new social media platform called Cara, where artists are flocking to because it doesn’t allow artificial intelligence to learn from our art. I’m 1 of 100’s of artists who have joined and its all about the art, not reels or comments, which is so refreshing. You can find me as yvonnenikstudio on Cara, as Nikolaison has too many characters it would seem.

Wishing you all a wonderful month.
